Governor’s FY2012 Budget Recommendations Released

Dear HFF partners:

As you likely know, Governor Patrick has released his FY2012 budget proposal.  Click here to view a preliminary analysis of programs that may be of interest to you.

Of particular note are changes to funding mechanisms and services provided to families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.  The governor has proposed a new program, the Massachusetts Short Term Housing Transition Program (this is the Home BASE program we have been hearing about) and recommends funding of $38.6 million for this program.

Emergency Assistance remains as the family shelter account, and the governor has recommended a funding level of $97.8 million. As expected, there are some big changes in this line item, and we are conducting a thorough analysis of these language changes and that of the newly introduced program. We will share our findings with you upon completion.  The combined funding recommendations for both programs total $136.4 million, about $17 million short of the projected EA spending for this fiscal year.
