Next week is National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week (Nov. 14-20), and Homes for Families is kicking off an op-ed campaign to raise awareness in Massachusetts’ communities about the prevalence of family homelessness and why we need housing solutions.
Most newspapers have sections designated for op-eds, which are opinion pieces that anyone can write on any subject affecting the community. In addition to raising awareness, legislators and their aides frequently read the op-eds in local papers to gauge public opinion and identify hot issues. With so many new elected officials at the State House, this is a great opportunity to educate them about family homelessness and what we need to solve it! So, the goal is to get op-eds in as many Massachusetts’ newspapers as possible.
Although the homelessness issue only gets a week, this campaign will last for all of November, but try to get in a piece by the end of the week if you can.
Need Help: HFF has created a sample template you can use to write your op-ed, which you can find by clicking here. You can also read HFF’s op-ed guide by clicking here. Also, to find your local newspaper click here.
